An artificial grass lawn is an investment.

In order to protect your investment you will want to keep your lawn in the best condition possible. Now you have had your beautiful new lawn installed it is important to carry out some minimal maintenance to ensure the area is at its best all year round. Artificial grass is extremely low maintenance but it is not NO maintenance. Now your lawn has been installed it will be susceptible to the Great British seasons, leaves will fall on the lawn in the Autumn creating perfect conditions for moss growth if left unattended and high use in the Summer months can lead to flattening of the pile if not properly maintained.

Brushing

The minimum maintenance for your artificial lawn is a simple brush once a month. Brushing the lawn ensures that the pile remains standing upright, a soft bristle brush is best for this. During the summer months, if your lawn is used more regularly you may find that you need to brush slightly more often to prevent compaction of the blades.

Pet Owners

If you are a dog owner you will need to carry out a little more maintenance as any mess should be removed from the surface as soon as possible, the turf can be washed down with tap water and this should remove any residue left on the surface. For more stubborn areas an artificial grass cleaner can be used.

Autumn

During the autumn months you will find that leaves from overhanging trees will fall onto the artificial grass surface. It is extremely important to remove all leaves from the surface, by doing this you reduce the risk of any moss or weed growth on top of the surface as leaves left on there for any period of time will create the ideal conditions for this. They could also affect drainage.

Protection

If you are carrying out any work in the garden that could have an effect on your lawn, i.e. painting fences, sheds, decking, it is advisable to sheet off the area to prevent spillage of anything that may be difficult to remove from the surface.

What not to do!

There are certain things that you should never do on an artificial lawn. Anything that involves a naked flame, for instance, smoking, lighting fireworks or a bonfire, or even a BBQ, any of these activities should not be carried out on or near to your lawn. It is important not to get any substances such as adhesives, chewing gum or paint on the area. Sharp objects such as metal garden furniture shouldn’t be put directly onto the surface as they can damage the tuft and the latex of the grass.
